Evelina Teran had 14 kills and seven digs, and sophomore
Allie Dishman added 10 kills, four blocks and two aces as the Falcons volleyball team knocked off Valdosta State 3-1 in a very important Gulf South Conference on Friday night at Trustmark Arena.
The win moved UM into a four-way tie with the Blazers, Mississippi College and Lee University for the seventh spot in the GSC standings at 4-6 and just a half-game behind West Georgia who is sitting in sixth place at 5-6. The Falcons and Wolves will clash on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the nest. The Falcons, now 13-12, are catching fire at the right time, taking a 4-game winning streak into the match with West Georgia.

Sav Roys tallied 28 assists and two aces for UM, while
Morgan Hoffman was stout at the net with nine blocks.
Megan Schram also had 11 digs for UM.
The Falcons came out firing, blowing past VSU 25-12, however, the Blazers answered with a 25-22 win in the second set to tie the match at 1-1.
Set three started much like the opening set, with the Falcons rolling out to a big lead. A VSU attack error gave UM an 11-3 lead. But, the Blazers came roaring back with six straight to cut the lead to 11-9. The rally continued with the Blazer outscoring UM 6-3 to take a 15-14 lead. But, this time, the Falcons fought back, scoring the next seven points to take a commanding 21-15 lead. The Blazers scored one more point on a service error, but UM finished the set with four straight to take a 25-16 win.Â
In the fourth and final set, the Falcons jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Again, the Blazers battled back to cut the lead to 6-4. Later, an attack error by Teran tied the score at 9-all. However, the Falcons answered once again with a 6-0 run to take a 15-9 lead. The pendulum swung back in VSU's favor as a 5-0 rally by the Blazers trimmed the lead to 15-14. But, the Falcons never gave up their advantage. UM finished off the match with a 25-20 win.
