MONTEVALLO - In a hard fought double overtime battle, the Montevallo women's soccer team fell 3-2 against West Georgia Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field. With the loss the Falcons slip to 7-8-1 with a 4-7-1 GSC record while UWG advances to 9-6 with a 7-5 conference record.
The match was a gritty battle from the moment the kick off was set, with both teams displaying strict defense for the majority of the first half. Montevallo found its first goal in the 42nd minute as
Kacey Alejandre played a ball for
Alexandra Dan to score, providing the Falcons with a needed spark before halftime.
West Georgia regrouped during the halftime break as they managed to create a scoring opportunity in the 47th minute after Hillary Resendiz notched the Wolves first goal. Montevallo took multiple on goal shots but didn't find an additional goal until
Madeline Milby knocked in a goal off of the assist from
Tori Ochoa. The Wolves responded two minutes later with a goal from Florence Pegrum to tie the match with 11 minutes left.
The match would be decided in double overtime as both teams battled for the final goal. West Georgia sealed the deal early in the second overtime after Cassidi Thomas found the net for the final goal.
The Falcons out shot West Georgia 17-12 with UM placing 10 shots on frame compared to eight from the Wolves.
