DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The Montevallo women's basketball team fell 87-71 against the sixth ranked North Georgia Nighthawks, Saturday afternoon in Dahlonega. With the loss the Falcons fall to 3-3 on the season with North Georgia advancing to 5-0 for the year.
"I was proud of how hard we played in the second half," remarked head coach Gary Van Atta. "I thought we dug a big hole for ourselves in the first half. We cut the lead to four in the 4th quarter. We just ran out of gas at the end. Buffie does a great job with her team. They are a Top Ten team for a reason."
The game was competitive in the initial phases of the match up with both teams trading buckets. North Georgia stretched the lead in towards the end of the period, taking a 25-19 edge over Montevallo. The Falcons battled but the Nighthawks extended their lead 45-30 by halftime.
North Georgia was tough but the Falcons battled to cut the lead within 10 points for the first time since the second quarter. The Nighthawks held the edge 59-50 at the end of the third quarter. Montevallo cut the UNG lead as close as four points in the fourth quarter but the Nighthawks pushed their lead in the final 4:32 to close out the game with the 87-71 victory.
The Falcons had four players score in double digits and were led by Jordan Jones who had 18 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
