SERIES HISTORY
Delta State has won 13 of the 16 meetings between the two teams, which began in 1983. DSU won the first game by the score of 49-39 in Cleveland, Miss. The Statesmen won the first six games before the Falcons picked up their first win in the series. 72-60 at the 2005 Gulf South Conference Tournament in Tupelo, Miss. Although DSU has a big advantage in the series, the Falcons have won two of the last three games.  UM won 57-54 on Feb. 28, 2019 to snap a 6-game losing streak to the Statesmen, then followed up with a 76-61 win at home on Nov. 23, 2019. The Statesmen won the last meeting 89-78 on Feb. 29, 2020 and the two teams haven't played since.Â

The Falcons edged Mississippi College 69-67 on Sunday evening at Trustmark Arena. With the win, the Falcons improved to 4-6 and 2-0 in the Gulf South Conference. Junior guard James McNeil led the Falcons with 17 points, five rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Redshirt freshman forward
Mason Shifflett also provided a major spark for the Falcons during a crucial period in the second half to give the Falcons the lead late. He finished the game with 14 points, 10 of which came during the deciding run for UM.

The Delta State University men's basketball team got 21 points from Lee Cotton ,a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double from Maalik Cartwright and hit 10 three-pointers as the Statesmen beat Auburn-Montgomery 78-67 on the road. The Statesmen moved to 3-0 in Gulf South Conference play for the first time since the 2009-2010 season.
