Falcon’s take regular season series over Lee, 74-60 in Cleveland

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Montevallo's women's basketball team took a big step towards securing the no. 2 seed in the East division of the Gulf South Conference tournament Saturday, Feb 20 securing the season series win against Lee University with a 74-60 victory on the road.

The Falcons played well from the outset scoring the first seven points of the game en route to a 15-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter. It would be a big night for Jennifer Andrew off the bench who scored four points in the period.

Neither team budged in the second quarter. Andrew added five more points while Kiya Sain added four to keep the Flames at a distance for a 29-23 halftime lead.

UM came out of the break again with great energy and made their move midway through the third quarter. Up 37-32, the Falcons went on a 10-3 run with Andrew and Sain once again being the catalysts. The duo each scored twice during the run and Montevallo took a 51-39 lead into the final period.

Both teams lit it up in the fourth combining for 44 points, but the Falcons only expanded their lead hitting three triples to seal the win.

Marisa Snodgrass was also big for UM scoring 12 and assisting on six more buckets. Jordan Jones continued her bounce back weekend as well registering double digits for the second game in a row with 12. Jennifer Andrew had her best night of the year scoring a season-high 21 points to lead her team. Kiya Sain also had a great effort with 17 points.

UP NEXT: UM will return home Friday, Feb 26 at 6 p.m. to face Shorter University for a two game series ending Saturday, Feb 27. The Falcons need one win to wrap up a host spot in the first round of the GSC tournament.
