Montevallo men’s soccer drops road contest at UAH 4-1

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The University of Montevallo men's soccer team fell on the road to the University of Alabama at Huntsville on Sunday afternoon 4-1. UM is now 0-2 on the season with an 0-2 mark in Gulf South Conference play.

Both teams battled in the first half, but neither side was able to find the back of the net early. UAH had eight shots in the first half to Montevallo's six, but each side only put one shot on goal. UM was hit with two yellow cards in the first half.

The Chargers opened the scoring at the 46:46 mark. Shortly after a red card on UM's Cameron Tuckett, UAH then struck again 73:03 into the game to push their lead to 2-0. UAH outshot UM 20-4 in the second half, most of which came while the Falcons were playing a man down.

However, Montevallo showed some fight, and got on the board at the 77:25 mark when Nemanja Acimovic buried a goal in the lower left corner off an assist from Fabio Menzel.

UM kept the pressure on, but the Chargers attack pushed forward and added two insurance goals in the last 9:02 to give them the 4-1 advantage that ended up being the final score.

Acimovic recorded three shots, two of which were on goal. Ruben Carvalho also had three shots with two shots on goal.

UP NEXT: Montevallo will look to get their first win of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 25, when they host Shorter in a GSC contest at 6 p.m.
