MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Montevallo womens soccer team dominated in the opening round of the GSC Finals, taking a 5-0 win over the Bulldogs. With the win the Falcons advance to the next round of the Gulf South Conference 2021 Spring Championship Series.
The Falcons had a slow start offensively in the initial period of the match but held strong defensively. Montevallo did not see its first goal until the 34th minute, when
Romee Contreras netted one to give UM the advantage.
Montevallo exploded in the second half notching, four goals during the half to secure the 5-0 win. Union scored on its own goal to make the UM lead 2-0.
Samara Lino scored the next two goals for Montevallo to establish a comfy 4-0 lead over the Bulldogs. The Falcon's final score came off the left leg of
Zariah Nogales, netting the first goal of her career at UM.
Romee Contreras and
Hannah Waki both had an assist on two of the Montevallo goals.
The Falcons outshot the Bulldogs 30-7 on the game with a 16-3 advantage in on goal shots. Montevallo also had the edge in corner kicks over Union with 14 compared to their three kicks.
