HOOVER, Ala. - The Montevallo volleyball team has their sites set on the GSC Tournament Semifinal round, with a match up against the Mississippi College Choctaws on Wednesday, March 31st at the Findley Center. In the midst of a challenging year due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Falcons have experienced abundant success all year on the court, making a 11-0 overall record with a 5-0 conference record.
"It truly has been a crazy year," remarked head coach
Katie O'Brien. "However, we have made it to this point and it has been because of hard work, on and off the court. I am proud of this team. They still love the game. They will play for each other and are prepared to put it all out on the court."
Montevallo has played some of the best offense in the conference this season, leading the GSC in kills with 570 for a 13.57 per set average. The Falcons are also second in the league in assists (525, 12.50 AVG/S), and service aces (88, 2.10 AVG/S).Â
UM's defense has held strong for the Falcons on the court in a major way this year, sitting second in the conference for blocks with 89.5 total making a 2.13 average per set and are third in digs with a 17.45 per set average.
Individually the Falcon's have led the conference in multiple statistical categories.Â
Evelina Teran is the GSC's leader in kills this season, putting down 170 total to make a 4.59 per set average.Â
Amanda Nugent has also been one of the top performers offensively in the conference. Nugent is the league's leader in service aces with 26 total for a 0.63 per set average, and is sitting in fifth for the most kills with 139 total for a 3.39 average per set. Teran (188, 5.08 AVG/S) and Nugent (179, 4.37) are also the top two points scorers in the conference.Â
Morgan Hoffman has been a lethal net defender for the Falcons this season, ranking second in the GSC in blocks with 46 total, marking a 1.21 per set average. Freshman
Casey Hendrixson is also top five in the conference in digs with 170 total for a 4.15 average. Â
The winner of today's semifinal match up will take on the winner of the UAH vs AUM game in the GSC Volleyball Spring Championship Series Tournament Finals.
