Montevallo heads to Jackson, Tennessee for GSC Semifinals

JACKSON, Tenn. - The University of Montevallo travels to Union University for a women's GSC semifinal game on Friday, March 5 with gametime at 6:00 pm.  The game will be played at Fred DeLay Gymnasium, home of the Bulldogs.
 
Montevallo defeated UAH 69-60 on Tuesday night to advance to the GSC Semifinals.   The Falcons were led by Marisa Snodgrass with 24 points.   Jordan Jones and Kiya Sain scored 15 and 14 respectively.  UM played tough defense as they forced UAH into 18 turnovers and had 12 steals.   Kourtnie Smith had four steals and Snodgrass created three steals.

The Falcons have been hot over the past eight games winning seven of them.   They are regionally ranked No.5 in the March 3 poll, right behind No.4 ranked Union.   The Falcons are 5-3 vs regionally ranked foes (Lee 3-1, Valdosta State 1-2 and UAH 1-0).
 
Head Coach Gary Van Atta has made many trips to Union or Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Coach Van Atta spent many years as head coach at his alma mater, Trevecca Nazarene, a former NAIA and TranSouth Conference foe.

Two Falcons are from Jackson, TN.   Redshirt senior Kiya Sain played high school ball at Southside HS and Junior Savannah Lee played at Trinity Christian Academy.

The GSC Women's Championship game will be on Sunday, March 7 on the campus of Auburn Montgomery. Game time is 1 p.m. Central time.
 
NCAA D2 South Regional quarterfinal games will played at North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Ga. begin Friday, March 12. The semifinals will be Saturday, March 13, and the regional championship Monday, March 15. Winners will advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Elite Eight in Columbus, Ohio, on March 23-26.
 
Region participating teams will be announced Sunday, March 7. The women's basketball selection show will be broadcast on ncaa.com at 9 p.m. CT followed by the men's basketball selection show at 9:30 p.m. CT. In addition to ncaa.com, you can also find the links that night at uuathletics.com.
