Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Falcon Footy completes second clean sheet of the weekend, wins 4-0 over Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. - Behind a pair of goals from senior Allye Darnell, the Montevallo women's soccer team earned a 4-0 victory over Clayton State Sunday morning in Georgia.  With the win the Falcons improve to 2-1-0 on the season while the Lakers fall to 0-2-1 on the campaign.

"It's good to get back to winning ways," remarked head coach Jake Wyman. "The girl's have worked hard and I thought they played well today. We started four true freshman today and I thought they handled themselves really well and helped us get on the front foot.

It was a stellar first half for the Falcons, with Heather Gomez getting UM on the board in the 15th minute with her first goal of the season.  Montevallo didn't take long to follow up with a goal from Kaitlyn Harvey that was played by Allye Darnell in the 27th minute creating a 2-0 lead in the first half.   The Falcons would find yet another goal in the next eight minutes as Allye Darnell found a scoring opportunity of her own with service coming from Tori Ochoa and Kaeri Ward.

Montevallo kept its momentum into the second capping the game with another goal from Graves County, Kentucky native Allye Darnell off an Avery Campbell assist with 10:54 second left in the match.  The Falcons held off the Lakers from scoring for the duration of the contest ending the match with the second shutout in two games.

Overall, UM outshot the Clayton State 17-3 including 11-0 in the first half. The Falcons also earned five corner kicks, while limiting the Lakers to three.

The duo of junior Cassandra Bodi and freshman Bella Gaudette combined for the Falcon's second shutout of the season, with Gaudette making her collegiate debut.

"Two clean sheets and five different goal scorers this weekend on the road is definitely a positive. Need to take some time to recover, get ourselves healthy, and start gearing up for one of, if not the toughest conference weekend of the year."

UP NEXT: Falcon Footy will return to the pitch on Friday September 17th at Varsity Field in the Gulf South Conference opener against Delta State.  Kick off is set for 5:00 PM
