MONTEVALLO - The University of Montevallo men's soccer team opened the 2021 season posting a 3-2 win over Lincoln Memorial, Thursday afternoon at Varsity Field. The Falcons advance to a 1-0 record to start the season, while the Railsplitters fall to 0-1.
"College soccer sometimes is about set pieces, we have a saying 'win the set piece battle' and today we won it. I'm really excited to get a comeback victory against an excellent and well-organized team," remarked head coach
Bruce Dietterle.
LMU was the first team to find the net after Jacob Agazzi scored to give the Railsplitters a 1-0 lead in the first half. The Falcons did not answer for the remainder of the first half.
Fabio Menzel booted in the Montevallo's first score of the contest in the 54
th minute, when he took a well-placed ball from
Jonathan Guadarrama into the LMU net to tie the game 1-1. The Railsplitters quickly returned fire when Arkin Ulusoy notched a goal in the 59
th minute, allowing them to regain the lead.

The Falcons were led by
Fabio Menzel who found the net on his own and contributed an assist to the game winning goal.
