MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo fell to AUM, 2-1, in a game that featured two penalty goals and an own goal, Sunday at Varsity Field.
In the 11
th minute, an unusual on-goal against the Falcons, off a throw in, put AUM ahead 1-0. Nearly 10 minutes later the Warhawks pushed the lead to two following a penalty-kick goal.
After over 40 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Falcons finally put a ball in the back-of-the-net, trimming the deficit to one, when
Edorta Cabieces Sanz scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season from a penalty kick.
In the final 25 minutes the Falcons fired three chances, only one on frame, but were unable to cash in.
The Falcons drop to 7-4-3 on the year and 6-4 in conference play in the loss. Following Sunday's result, AUM and Montevallo both have a shot at securing the fourth seed in the conference tournament and first-round hosting privileges. In order to do so the Falcons must defeat Delta State Tuesday.
