PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo Volleyball team fell to West Florida, 3-0, in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament, Saturday in Pensacola, Fla.
UM dropped the first set, 25-19, before falling in a tightly-contested second set, 25-23. The Argonauts took the final set 25-19.
Jillian Morgan led the Falcons with 13 kills while hitting a .375 clip in the match.
Montevallo opened the match neck-and-neck with the Argos until a 5-0 run put UWF ahead, 13-5. The home side led the rest of the way, winning 25-19.
In the second set, the Falcons quickly jumped ahead of the Argos following a 6-1 opening run that included three consecutive kills from Morgan. After West Florida briefly gained the lead back, UM used a 5-0 scoring run, capped with an ace from Casey Hendrixson, to take 17-15 lead. Kills from Macy Martin and Morgan Hoffman put UM ahead 23-21 but a final 4-0 run from UWF was enough to top the Falcons, 25-23.
Montevallo battled with the Argos throughout the third until a 6-0 run midway through put UWF up, 21-16. Two more kills from Morgan pushed the Falcons closer, 21-19, but another set-ending 4-0 run gave UWF the 25-19 win and the 3-0 win in the match.
