MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team dropped a home contest to Delta State, 67-60, Sunday.
Shooting woes plagued the Falcons as the team shot 39.7 percent from the floor and 22.7 percent from three-point range. Delta State shot 45.6 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from deep.
With 44 seconds remaining, an
Aidan Gardiner layup made it a two-point game, 62-60, and capped a 9-0 run. A 5-0 scoring run in favor of the Statesman pushed Delta State to the win, giving Montevallo its second home loss of the season.
There were just four lead changes and only one tie in the contest. Delta State led for over 37 minutes and by as much as 14. A
James McNeil layup to out UM up 4-3 less than two minutes in marked the Falcons' largest lead of the night.
Braxton Bertolette led the Falcons with 22 points and grabbed a team-leading nine boards.

st | After Gardiner put UM up one, 8-7 at the 14:07 mark – matching its largest lead of the game – Delta State responded with a 15-4 run to take its biggest lead of the half, 23-12. With 3:13 to go the Falcons remained down by 11, 30-21, before three Bertolette layups and a Gardiner dunk trimmed the deficit to three, 30-27, with 59 seconds remaining. A three from DSU's Lee Cotton put the Statesman up 33-27 at the half.

nd | A 12-6 run by the Statesman out of halftime put UM behind by 14, 47-33, with 15:51 on the clock and marked the largest lead of the game for Delta State. With 9:07 to go, Bertolette's third-consecutive basket trimmed the deficit to five, 51-46 before
MJ Jones made it a two-point game with an and-one, 51-49. Three straight three-pointers in response put the Statesman up by 11 less than two minutes later. Gardiner's layup with 44 seconds to go capped a 9-0 run and made it a two-point game, 62-60, but the Statesman outscore UM 5-0 the rest of the way.

- Montevallo was outrebounded 36-31 in the contest and 10-8 on the offensive glass. Bertolette led UM with nine boards.
- The Falcons won the turnover battle, 14-7 and scored 14 points from turnovers.
