CARROLLTON, Ga. --- Senior forward scored 18 points against West Georgia on Monday evening, surpassing the 1,000 point mark in her career as a Montevallo Falcon. However, it wasn't enough as the Falcons lost to the Wolves 80-73 in overtime, handing UM their third straight loss. The loss also put the Falcons' Gulf South Conference Tournament hopes in jeopardy as they fell to 7-10 in the GSC and 11-14 overall. West Georgia crept a little closer to the Falcons in the battle for the final spot in the tournament with the win, improving to 6-10 in the GSC and 9-12 overall.
The loss put a damper on what was supposed to be a night of celebration for Flack, who entered the night needing only nine points to crack the milestone. She would do it in the second quarter from the freethrow line, knocking down a pair to pull UM to within a point at 26-25 with 5:53 left before the half. Overall, Flack was 6-for-15 from the field and 6-of-8 from the freethrow line. Guard
Marisa Snodgrass also finished with 18 points. She also had seven assists and six rebounds.
Unlike the first meeting between the two teams early in the season when the Falcons raced out to a 30-plus point lead, the game was close throughout. UWG led 23-16 after the first quarter and 43-36 at the break. However, the teams played the third quarter even (18-18), and the Falcons outscored the Wolves 18-9 in the final quarter, overcoming a 14-point deficit, to force overtime.
UWG had a 66-52 lead in the final period with less than eight minutes to go. The Falcons went on a furious 18-4 run to demolish the deficit. Snodgrass scored with 46 seconds left to tie the game at 70-all. The Wolves had a chance to win in regulation, but
Tahya Campbell's jumper was blocked by
Leisha Steger as time expired.
In overtime, the Falcons managed to hit only one fieldgoal out of seven and a freethrow as UWG pulled away for the win.
Next up -- The Falcons travel to Clinton, Miss. on Thursday for a key matchup against Mississippi College. UM is a half-game behind the 7th place Choctaws in the GSC standings.
