MONTEVALLO - The Montevallo baseball team is off to a tremendous start, going 7-0 with a program record 18 opponent strikeouts in one game, on top of stellar individual performances by multiple members of the team.

The Gulf South Conference recognized Gino Cozzi as the pitcher of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.  The sophmore RHP from Downers Grove, Illinois  helped the Montevallo sweep Missouri-St. Louis, as he tossed five shutout innings with 10 strikeouts. As a result, the sophomore right-hander picked up the series opening win, surrendering four hits and two walks during the outing. 

Montevallo was one of ten new teams who entered the NWBCA Top 25 this week, for the first time since Week 6 (March 28) of the 2005 season.  The Falcons are ranked 24th nationally and are tied for fourth place with Lee in the South Region.
