Montevallo baseball edges KWC 7-3

MONTEVALLO - The Montevallo baseball team added another win to its early season streak, taking the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers 7-3 Friday afternoon, in Motown.  With the win Montevallo is now 9-0 for the year while the Panthers slip to 0-3.

The Falcons jumped on the board first, after Reed Latimer doubled to left center to allow Riley Cain to score the first run of the game in the bottom of the second.  Montevallo found its next run after Cain sacrificed himself to bring Ben Teel home for the Falcons second run in the third inning.  UM snuck a run in the same inning after an third base error gave Sam Kuchinski an opportunity to score.

The Panthers came alive in the fourth inning when Kyle Werries hit a triple that brought in KWC's first two runs in the fourth inning to make the score 3-2.  Kentucky Wesleyan tied the game 3-3 in the sixth inning after Jaret Humphrey sacrificed himself for a run.

The Falcons broke the tied after a KWC throwing error gave Jake Smallwood a shot to secure UM's fourth run.  Montevallo held on to secure the win after a solid hitting performance, sealed by Sam Kuchinski who homered on a 3-0 count to notch UM's final run.

UP NEXT: The Falcons will take on the Panthers in the second game of the weekend series with first pitch set for Saturday, February 19th at 1:00 PM in Bob Reisner Stadium.
