UM Men's Basketball Falls at AUM in Regular Season Finale

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- After tearing up the hardwood on Thursday night at Delta State, the Montevallo men's basketball team cooled off on Saturday in a 85-72 loss to Auburn University-Montgomery in the regular season finale. With the loss, the Falcons fell to 13-15 and 11-9 in the Gulf South Conference. Now the seventh seed going into next week's GSC tournament, the Falcons will travel to Jackson, Tenn. to face No. 2 seed Union University on Tuesday. Meanwhile, AUM ended their season with a record of 12-16 and 9-11.

The loss overshadowed stellar performances by Jason King and forward Aaris-Monte Bonds. King scored 21 points, grabbed nine rebounds, four steals and dished out four assists for the Falcons, while Bonds tallied 18 points and eight rebounds. Xavier Malcom also finished with double-figures, contributing 11 points, three assists and three rebounds.

The Warhawks were led by Isaiah Hart who scored a game-high 40 points. Jeremiah Bozeman added 15 points and Roderick Smith dropped in 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

The Falcons fell behind early and never got untracked. Leading 8-5 after a 3-pointer by King, the Falcons went cold and were outscored 16-6 by AUM. The result was a 31-14 lead by the home team with 7:53 left in the first half. The Falcons rallied to trim the deficit down to six in the final moments of the half, but the Warhawks took a 44-36 into the lockkeroom at the break.

Early in the second half, UM battled back to tie the game at 49-all with 17:16 left. The Falcons were trailing 58-56 with 14:17 left when AUM went on an 18-2 run to blow the game open. The Falcons were unable to respond to the onslaught.
