NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Montevallo women's lacrosse team fell 14-11 against Newberry College, Sunday afternoon in Newberry, South Carolina. With the loss the Falcons slip to 2-3 overall this season and Newberry advances to 3-1.
Montevallo was led by
Anja Kuys who scored five goals with scoring contributions coming from
Caleigh Spoon (2),
Hailey Wilcox (2),
Lily McCormick (1), and
Jenna Piazza (1).
The Falcons struck first after a
Caleigh Spoon hit an unassisted goal with 10:53 left in the quarter. The teams traded goals to end the first period gridlocked at 4-4. The Wolves took the lead in the second quarter, outscoring UM 7-1 for a 11-5 Newberry lead at halftime.
Both defenses tightened up in the second half as Montevallo netted two of only three goals scored in the third quarter. The Falcons kept fighting in the fourth quarter as
Anja Kuys score three straight goals, but it would not be enough to make a come back against the Wolves.
