BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Montevallo baseball team earned a 11-4 win after suffering a 3-1 deficit for six innings, Tuesday afternoon at the historic Rickwood Field. The Falcons add a win to their now 13-2 record while the Golden Bears slip to 5-9 overall this year.
Miles College jumped out ahead of Montevallo in the bottom of the second inning after the Golden Tiger's Max Davenport hit a triple to center field with two on base for an early 2-0 lead.
During Miles's next at bat first baseman Jacob Bisharat hit a home run to add the Golden Bears third run to the scoreboard for a 3-0 lead.
The Falcons ignited the scoreboard after
Ben Teel hit a solo home run to left field to bring the game to 3-1 in the sixth.
Montevallo cut the edge 3-2 in the eighth inning after
Riley Cain was walked with bases loaded, pushing
Asa Awbrey home. During the following at bat
Reed Latimer hit a huge single that led to a fielding error that allowed UM two runs to take a 4-3 lead over the Golden Tigers.
Chet Moore came through for the Falcons on the very next at bat for a two-run single to extend the lead 6-3.
Montevallo added a seventh run in the ninth inning after
Jake Smallwood hit a single to right field that gave
Asa Awbrey a chance to get home from second base.
Reed Latimer stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam that gave to bolster the Falcon lead. Montevallo scored ten runs in two innings to give themselves a 11-3 lead.
Miles scored a run in the bottom of the inning on a solo homerun by Max Davenport, but pitcher
Zach Toth only allowed one more hit the rest of the game, sealing the seven run win for UM.
