Falcons fall 14-11 in a nail biter at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Montevallo women's lacrosse team came up just short against Alabama Huntsville, falling 14-11 after a hard fought battle Sunday afternoon on the road.  With the loss the Falcons slip to 3-8, with an 0-2 GSC record.  

UP NEXT:  The Falcons are set to the Lee University Flames, with the first draw set for Saturday, April 2nd at 12:00 PM.  

Key Players
Anja Kuys was UM's leader in goals, netting three total with four draw controls, a ground ball, and a caused turnover.   The Falcons scoring efforts were rounded out by Lily McCormick (2),Hailey Wilcox (2),Katherine Friedman (1), Makenzie Deluca (1),Amber Lynch (1), and Jenna Piazza (1).

Team Stats
The Falcons notched 21 total shots with 20 on frame attempts.  Montevallo went 19-24 on clear attempts and picked up 20 ground balls.  UM held a 14-13 edge over the Chargers in draw controls, along with a 11-9 advantage in free position attempts.  

Key Plays

1st Quarter
The Falcons scored three unanswered goals in a little more than two minutes after falling behind 1-0, making the score 3-1 with 8:49 left in the period.  UM added two more goals notching a 5-3 lead by the end of the quarter. 

2nd Quarter
The game began to tighten back up as both teams traded goals, ending the period gridlocked at 7-7.

3rd Quarter
UAH and UM continued to go back and fourth until the Chargers set off three back to back goals to earn a 12-9 edge by the end of the period.  

4th Quarter
Alabama Huntsville's scorning streak spilled over into the fourth quarter, adding two additional unanswered goals for a 14-9 advantage with 10:34 left in the game.  The game was silent until Anja Kuys netted the Falcons 10th goal with 2:54 left to go.  Montevallo found another goal from Mackenzie Deluca in the final minutes of the game but the come back effort by UM was halted by the Chargers.
