MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Montevallo men's tennis team had their season come to an end with a 4-2 loss to No. 45 Delta State in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference. The Falcons finished the season with a record of 7-12 and a national ranking of 69th, while Delta State improved to 10-7 and moved on to the semifinal.
The Falcons got off to a good start, winning two of the three doubles matches and taking a 1-0 lead.
Gavin Salton and
Sergi Martinez won No. 1 doubles 7-6 and No. 3 doubles went to
Dylan Valentine and
Rien Alderliesten 6-3.
After DSU claimed No. 1 singles,
Philippe Zehender took No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-3 to give UM a 2-1 lead. However, the Statesmen swept the next three singles matches to clinch the victory.
