CLINTON, Miss. – The University of Montevallo men's soccer team unleashed four goals in the second half to soar past Mississippi College, 5-2, and open conference play 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.
Montevallo entered the half knotted 1-1 with the Choctaws before opening the scoring in the second half. After being tied for nearly 54 minutes, the Falcons broke the match open and added three goals between the 72' minute and the 82' minute.
Julio Rojo scored his first goal of the year in the 72' minute, breaking the tie and putting Montevallo ahead 2-1. Less than two minutes later,
Brock Barbee recorded his first goal as a Falcon to put the squad ahead, 3-1. Mississippi College added a goal less than a minute later, cutting the lead to one, 3-2. In the 80' minute, Rojo added his second goal of the day on a penalty kick, lifting the Falcons to a 4-2 advantage. Finally, in the 88' minute
Gabriele Valerio scored the dagger, registering his first goal of the year and extending the lead to 5-2.
While the offense found the back of the net for the most times this season, senior goalkeeper
Salvador Plaza held the Choctaws to just two goals in 18 total shots faced, including eight on goal. Plaza recorded one of his six saves on a penalty kick as he held the Choctaws to 0-2 in PK's on the day.
The Falcons remain undefeated and break a streak of three consecutive ties to move to 2-0-3 on the year in the dominant win.

- Mississippi College recorded 18 total shots in the contest and placed eight on goal.
- There were four different Falcons goal-scorers in the contest and each player recorded their first goal of the season.
- Plaza was one-shy of his career-high with six saves in the contest and allowed just two goal. The goalkeeper faced two penalty kicks and held the Choctaws 0-2 in that category with one save.
- There was a total of 10 yellow cards issued to both sides combined.
