Men's Soccer Remains Unbeaten with 1-0 Win over CBU

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's soccer team remains unbeaten in 2022 with a 1-0 victory over Christian Brothers at Varsity Field, Friday.
 
After 62 minutes of scoreless play, Edorta Cabieces Sanz found the back of the net on an assist from goalkeeper Salvador Plaza, to give the Falcons a 1-0 advantage.


Plaza went on to make three of his four total saves in the final 27 minutes, helping lead the Falcons to their third win of the year and improve to 2-0 in the GSC.
 
Montevallo held CBU scoreless for the first time this season in the Falcons' second clean-sheet of the year.


HOW IT HAPPENED
 
5'     | CBU fired its first shot on frame and it was saved by Plaza.
51'   | Montevallo put its first shot on goal as Cabieces Sanz fired one at CBU's Max Klink.
62'   | On a breakaway, keep Salvador Plaza sent a ball ahead to Cabieces Sanz who found the back of the net, proving to be the game-winner.
87'   | Plaza made his third save of the final 23 minutes to help the Falcons win 1-0.

GAME NOTES
 
  • Montevallo recorded a clean-sheet for the second match this season.
  • The Falcons open the GSC slate 2-0 for the first time since 2017.
  • UM out-shot the Bucs 14-11 while both sides put four on frame.
  • CBU edged the Falcons in corner kicks, 6-5.
  • Just two cards were issued in the match - both yellows.
  • Cabieces Sanz led the Falcons with a goal and three shots on goal. He has three goals on the year and tied for fifth in the league in that regard.
