Montevallo Shuts Out Union, 6-0, in Third Straight Win

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's soccer team dominated Union 6-0, Sunday, for the third straight win, to move to 4-0-3 overall on the year and 3-0 in conference play.
 
The Falcons registered a season-high 25 shots and 12 shots on goal, to put the Bulldogs away, 6-0.


Senior goalkeeper Salvador Plaza once again put on a fine display in goal and made seven saves in his second shutout of the week.
 
Six different players found the back-of-the-net in the win while Julio Rojo led the effort with four points from a goal and two assists.  
 
Montevallo held Union scoreless for the Falcons' third shutout of the year and the second consecutively.


With the win, Montevallo moves into first place in the conference standings with nine total points and is currently the only team in the GSC without a conference loss or tie.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
35'   | Gabriele Valerio broke open the scoring with his second goal of the year off an assist from Julio Rojo.
37'   | Edin Hernandez pushed the lead to 2-0 with a penalty-kick goal – his first of the year.
50'   | Hugo Cakurda fired one in the back-of-the-net lifting the Falcons to a 3-0 advantage, assisted by Rojo.
76'   | Edorta Cabieces Sanz notched his team-leading fourth goal on the year to put Montevallo ahead 4-0 following an assist from Narcis Bou Dalmau.
82'   | Julio Rojo scored unassisted following a rebounded shot.
88'   | Bou Dalmau added the sixth and final goal of the day off an assist from Edorta Cabieces Sanz.

GAME NOTES
 
  • Montevallo's 25 total shots is the most in a match since recording 27 against Newberry on Sept. 12, 2021.
  • The Falcons outshot the Bulldogs 25-10 overall and 12-7 in shots on goal.
  • Both sides drew seven corners in the contests.
  • Plaza recorded his third shutout of the year and tied his season-high with seven saves.
  • Six different Falcons scored in the contest while Rojo led the squad with a pair of assists.
