Montevallo Ties for the Third Consecutive Match, 1-1, at Florida Southern

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's soccer team tied Florida Southern 1-1 on the road, Sunday, for the third consecutive tie of the season.


Hugo Cakurda scored his first career-goal off a rebound from a penalty kick in the 82' minute that was assisted by Edorta Cabieces Sanz, to even the match and force the draw. 


Florida Southern applied pressure early in the match, placing three shots on frame in the first 22 minutes – all were saved by goalkeeper Salvador Plaza.
 
Montevallo fell behind in the 73' minute when the Mocs found the back of the net. Less than 10 minutes later, the Falcons evened the match with Cakurda's goal. 
 
Following the equalizer, neither side was able to get a shot off, ending in the third tie in a row for the Falcons.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

27' | Edin Hernandez places the first shot on goal for the Falcons and it is saved by AJ Pearce.
54' | Plaza makes his fourth save of the match to hold a 0-0 tie.
73' | Florida Southern takes a 1-0 lead.
81' | Julio Rojo's penalty kick was saved by Pearce. Cakurda followed up the save with a goal, equalizing the match.

  • Salvador Plaza recorded four saves and allowed one goal.     
  • Freshman Hugo Cakurda fired two shots on frame and scored his first career goal.
  • Edorta Cabieces Sanza recorded his second assist of the year and currently leads the team in points with six.
  • Julio Rojo and Edin Hernandez each framed a shot on goal.
  • Nine Falcons recorded a shot in the match as the team totaled 11 while the Mocs added 10.
  • Four of Montevallo's 11 shots were on goal and five of Florida Southern' s 10 shots were on goal.
  • Each team recorded three corner kicks.
  • Four yellow cards were issued to the Falcons and two to the Mocs.
