CLINTON, Miss. – The Montevallo women's basketball team held off Mississippi College's comeback effort in a 64-58 victory over the Lady Choctaws.
Both teams opened the game with hot shooting as with the Falcons shooting 47.1 percent (8-for-17) from the floor while MC knocked down 53.8 percent (7-of-13) of shots in the first ten minutes. Montevallo held an advantage in threes and free throws in the first quarter to take a 24-15 lead into the second.
Marisa Snodgrass was on fire from the jump with eight first-quarter points to lead all scorers.
Montevallo continued its strong start with 18 second-quarter points, led by
Anna Katherine Eastman's eight points on 3-of-4 shooting. The Falcons stretched the lead to 17, the largest of the game, after freshman
Katie Moore laid one in on a fast break at the 2:27 mark. A 7-0 run from the Lady Choctaws in the final 1:44 sliced Montevallo's lead to nine, 42-33, at the half.
Shyan Flack stretched the Falcons advantage back to 14 points with a layup with 4:56 to go in the third before MC battled back to cut the lead down to just three, 51-48, heading into the final quarter of play.
Mississippi College trimmed the lead to one after a layup early in the fourth but four quick points from Snodgrass and
McCarley Northway gave Montevallo a bit of breathing room. The final 4:16 came up all Montevallo as the Falcons held MC to just four points down the stretch. A pair of made free throws from Snodgrass with just 2.7 seconds left lifted the team to a six-point victory.
Snodgrass was the top performer for Montevallo with 20 points on a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe to go along with four steals, three assists, and two rebounds.
Michaella Edwards came up one rebound short of a double-double with ten points and nine boards in 30:04 of action.

1ST | A hot start from both sides had both teams trading buckets until Montevallo stretched its lead to nine after an eight-point quarter from Snodgrass.
2ND | The Falcons opened up a 17-point lead in the second quarter behind another eight-point quarter by a Montevallo guard with Eastman shooting 3-for-4 from the floor.
3RD | Montevallo struggled to find a rhythm offensively in the third quarter while MC mounted a comeback effort to trim the Falcons' lead to just three heading into the final stanza.
4TH | Despite making just one field goal, the Falcons outscored the Lady Choctaws 13-10 in the final quarter to take the game, 64-58.
