Men and Women's Swim Combine for Eight Wins, 20 Podium Finishes at Argo Winter Classic

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's and women's swimming teams competed in the Argo Winter Classic, Saturday, hosted by the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Fla.


The men's squad competed in a lone dual-meet against Birmingham Southern while the women participated in a tri-meet, competing head-to-head against Birmingham Southern and meet-host West Florida.
 
The Montevallo men fell to BSC 158-144 but earned 13 total podium finishes in the meet and eight event wins.
 
Jacob Rubin continued his success from throughout the week - as Saturday's meet marked the fourth consecutive day of competition- with individual wins in the 100-yard butterfly at a time of 51.23 and the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.25.
 
Thom Naccarato totaled two individual wins as well. The senior finished first with a time of 54.06 in the 100-yard backstroke and also took first in the 100-free with a time of 48.91.
 
Connor Daigle added a pair of wins, finishing first in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:00.02 and in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:12.66.
 
Additionally, Harrison Dorsey earned an individual win in the 200-yard backstroke with his tine of 1:58.00.
 
The team of Naccarato, Dorsey, Jimmy Franck and Rubin earned a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:12.28 to close out the meet.
 
The women's squad fell in both head-to-head battles of the tri-meet, dropping a dual-meet match to West Florida 210-96 and to BSC 183-114.
 
Montevallo's women's team earned seven podium finishes in the meet while competing against two squads.
 
Senior Molly Hansen led the way with two second-place finishes on the afternoon. Hansen finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.10 and in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.89.
 
Beth Balent, Keara McGee and Cypris Wilkinson each posted a third-place finish in the meet. Balent posted a time of 2:15.28 in the 200-yard butterfly, McGee added a time of 56.89 in the 100-freestyle and Wilkinson swam a time of 5:35.06 in the 500-freestyle.
 
Wilkinson, Amanda Ware, McGee and Cardwell combined for a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:51.09.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will face BSC on Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. in Birmingham, Ala., to close out the regular season.
