JACKSON, Tenn. – Montevallo men's soccer picked up a road win at Union, 2-1, on Friday night despite an early goal from the Bulldogs.
Union quickly took control of the game with a goal inside the game's first minute.
The Falcons answered with back-to-back corners that led to UM's first shot on goal of the night which came from the foot of senior
Mark Shoebridge in the 11
th minute.
Montevallo's attack was relentless, winning three more corners in the first 13 minutes before a passing clinic led to a
Michael Milliron shot on frame in the 19
th minute.
Union looked to extend its lead with a penalty kick in the 25
th minute but sophomore keeper
Tomas Valles Gilbert came up big with his first save of the night.
Moments later, Montevallo equalized with a quick corner from Shoebridge to fellow senior
Otger Vendrell who found his second goal in as many games to take a 1-1 tie into the half.
Out of the break, the Falcon frontline continued to pressure the UU keeper with consecutive shots on target from Shoebridge and Vendrell in the first 10 minutes of the second.
Following Valles Gilbert's second stop,
Julio Rojo drew a penalty in the 61
st minute and beat the keeper to lift Montevallo to its first lead of the game at 2-1.
The Falcons looked to add with three-straight shots on frame before Valles Gilbert made his fourth save of the night in the 84
th minute to cap off Montevallo's 2-1 road victory.
