MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's soccer kept its postseason hopes alive with a 1-1 draw against No. 13 Mississippi College on Friday night.
Montevallo looked to take control early with
Julio Rojo firing a shot on frame inside the game's first minute.
Mark Shoebridge and Rojo would add two more shots on goal before MC took the lead in the seventh minute.
In the 20
th minute,
Otger Vendrell found his third goal this season with a beautiful ball that beat the keeper and found the back of the net to bring Montevallo back level.
Tomas Valles Gilbert came up with his first save of the night to keep the game knotted at 1-1 in 25
th minute before being forced to make a second in the 32
nd minute.
The game turned into a heated battle at the end of the first half with four MC yellow cards being issued in the final 12 minutes.
Out of the break, Montevallo looked to take the lead just a few minutes into the half with shots on goal from Shoebridge and
Seth Acton but, both were turned aside by the MC keeper.
Montevallo's backline came up with a huge team save in the 74
th minute to keep the game tied before Valles Gilbert made his third save of the night in the 82
nd minute.
A final save from Valles Gilbert in the 87
th minute secured Montevallo's 1-1 tie with a nationally ranked squad.
