Falcons Sweep Shorter on Halloween Night

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team sweeps the Shorter Hawks 3-0 in their last home match of the regular season.

  • Allie Dishman led the Falcons with seven kills on the night while she has four total blocks.
  • Alex Koontz had a season-high of three aces.
  • Macy Martin led Montevallo with 14 digs while adding five kills, two blocks and one assist.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Set 1
  • Shorter started the night on fire as they captured the lead with three straight kills and an ace.
  • Down 6-3, the Falcons tied the set up with a kill from Alex Koontz and Morgan Hoffman while Kalin Duncan contributed with an ace.
  • The Hawks went on a 12-4 run to take a 17-9 lead.
  • UM battled back to make it 18-17 highlighted by a kill from Alex Koontz and an ace from Allie Dishman mixed with multiple errors on Shorter.
  • Montevallo ended the set on an 8-2 run led by Alex Koontz who had two kills and two aces.
 
Set 2
  • Down 4-3, the Falcons took the lead with kills from Morgan Hoffman, Colton Thompson and Kalin Duncan while Duncan also contributed an ace.
  • Shorter took the next four consecutive points on two kills and an ace.
  • Montevallo broke the 8-8 tie with errors on the Hawks with Hoffman and Thompson dished out kills.
  • With the Falcons up 21-17, they took the set with two kills from senior Macy Martin and two errors by Shorter.
 
Set 3
  • Montevallo jumped out to a 5-1 lead with aces from Grace Petro and Colton Thompson.
  • With the set tied at 10-10, both teams exchanged two-point swings.
  • The set remained tied until the Falcons took four out of five points highlighted by kills from Koontz, Hoffman and Thompson.
  • The Hawks did not quit and fought back to steal the lead from Montevallo by taking the next seven out of eight points.
  • The Falcons responded with a 6-1 run with kills from Martin, Dishman and Frenette to take the set and the match.
