Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Montevallo Falls to West Florida After a 90-Minute Battle

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's soccer battled West Florida but eventually fell 1-0 to the No. 4 team in the United Soccer Coaches South Region Poll.

The Argonauts looked to put Montevallo on its heels early, forcing Tomas Valles Gilbert to make his first save of the afternoon in the ninth minute. On the counter, sophomore Alvaro Martin Lopez fired UM's first shot on frame at the 11-minute mark.

Possession changed hands for the next 15 minutes or so until Julius Rahmig nearly put the Falcons on the board with a shot on target but was turned away by the UWF keeper.

The Argonauts would sneak a goal in in the closing stages of the first half to go up 1-0 with 1:31 left in the first half.

Following another early Valles Gilbert save, Hugo Cakurda and Julio Rojo took back-to-back Falcon shots on goal but each was denied by the keeper. Valles Gilbert was needed once again in the 62nd minute with the Argos taking a shot on target but the sophomore made his third save of the night.

Moments later, Seth Acton and Michael Milliron each attempted to knot the game with two more shots on target but the two Falcon attackers were turned aside.

Despite the Falcons' best effort, Montevallo could not make up the difference leading to its 1-0 loss.
