MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team is set to take on the Valdosta State Blazers in the second round of the 2023 Gulf South Conference Tournament on Friday, Nov. 17 in Pensacola, Fla.

About Montevallo
The Falcons enter the GSC Tournament with a first-round bye as they clinched the fourth seed with their victory over Valdosta State last Saturday. UM has only played the Blazers once in the conference tournament where the Falcons won three sets to one in 2018.
Against VSU this season, the Falcons have averaged 54 kills, a .204 hit percentage, 50 assists and 13 total blocks in two matches. In both matches against the Blazers,
Macy Martin had 13 kills in both while totaling 34 digs, six aces and a .253 hitting percentage.
In their previous match up,
Morgan Hoffman was disruptive at net, as she totaled five blocks. Hoffman is one block away from moving into Montevallo's top-five in all-time division II total block list. She is currently nine in the Gulf South Conference with 77 total blocks.
As a team, Montevallo is sixth in the Gulf South with a .163 team hitting percentage, in assists with 1158 and in kills with 1,260 on the season.
Scouting Valdosta State
The Blazers entered the GSC Tournament with the fifth-seed as they lost the head-to-head tie breaker with Montevallo. In the first-round, they disposed of West Georgia 3-1 in Valdosta, Ga. on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
Valdosta State will be looking to keep their postseason momentum going against the Falcons as they held West Georgia to a .086 hit percentage while having a .228 hit rate of their own. The Blazers also compiled 84 digs as they had four players who contributed 10 or more digs.
Jojo Smith has been a leader for VSU all season and she showed it in their first-round match as she had 18 kills, 11 digs and four service aces. Smith has been a thorn in the Falcons side in both of their regular season match ups as she had 13 kills and over 10 digs in both.
As a team, the Blazers are top-five in the GSC in hitting percentage, assists, kills and aces while they are first in the conference with 1,940 digs and 249 total blocks.
