Montevallo Drops Road Outing in Mississippi

CLEVELAND, Miss. –  Despite leading for nearly 23 minutes and holding a halftime lead, 46-41, the Montevallo men's basketball team dropped a Gulf South Conference road contest, 97-77, to Delta State, Sunday.

Montevallo controlled the start of the road outing in the Magnolia state with an opening three-pointer by Tyson Sexton. The Falcons would go on to build a lead as large as 12 in the opening half following a jumper off a steal from freshman Brandon Fussell, 34-22, at the 7:23 mark. Delta State shrunk the deficit throughout the remainder of the half but a late three-pointer from Cam Glover gave UM a five-point cushion at the break, 46-41.

Out of halftime, the home side began to catch fire from the field and jumped in front of UM for the first time, 50-49, to cap a 9-3 run. Quick buckets from Montevallo's Jaylen Curry and Jack Henderson pushed the Falcons back in front at the 16:20 mark, 53-50. However, Delta State would use a 13-0 run to jump in front, 63-50. Montevallo cut the deficit to five with a layup from Aidan Gardiner but shooting woes continued as UM was unable to get closer the rest of the way, falling 97-77.

Glover led UM in scoring with 17 points while Henderson led the Falcons on the boards with eight.
