Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo dropped just its second league contest of the season to West Georgia, 75-62, on Friday night.
The Falcons struggled offensively to start the game, shooting just 21 percent from the field. Montevallo's two early turnovers left the Falcons in a 6-0 hole before
Isabel Grimes first points of the game ended an early UWG run. Back-to-back UM buckets pulled the Falcons back within four points before the Wolves ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 19-9 lead into the second.
Montevallo's shooting woes continued in the second despite an early eight points from UM with a pair of threes from
Savannah Cook and
Lia Edwards that trimmed West Georgia's advantage to 22-17 with 7:31 to play. Montevallo's defense kept the Falcons in the game, holding the Wolves to a 26.7 percent mark from the floor in the second. With just four points from either side in the final six minutes and change, Montevallo trailed 29-19 heading into the locker room.
UM's offense found life after the half with a 4-for-5 shooting mark in the first two minutes and change to pull within seven points. Following a
Cali Smallwood three, West Georgia stretched its advantage to 40-30 with 4:53 on the clock. A pair of three from Smallwood and Cook brought the game to a one-possession score at 44-41 with 2:06 to play. Cook knocked down her third three of the quarter to beat the buzzer and leave Montevallo down 50-44.
West Georgia opened its largest lead of the night with an 8-for-9 start from the field in the fourth quarter to take a 70-51 advantage with 4:24 on the clock. A 6-0 run from Montevallo highlighted by a pair of buckets from
Marisa Snodgrass cut into the lead with 3:11 to play. Montevallo forced several turnovers down the stretch in an effort to comeback but West Georgia's three-point shooting proved to be too much for the Falcons to overcome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST | Montevallo struggled to find the bottom of the net in the first, shooting just 4-of-19 from the field, while West Georgia's 12 points in the paint left Montevallo trailing by 10.
2ND | The Falcons continued to be plagued by shooting woes with Montevallo shooting just 15 percent from the floor in the second. With the Falcons defense holding the Wolves to just 10 points, Montevallo trailed 29-19 heading into the break.
3RD | Montevallo's offense found its rhythm to start the second half with a 4-for-5 mark from the field in the first two minutes of the half. Cook lead the squad with nine points in the quarter as the Falcons trimmed the lead to just three at one point.
4TH | With West Georgia shooting 10-for-13 in the final quarter, Montevallo fell to the Wolves 75-62.
