Falcons Post 2 Wins Over Spring Hill

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo softball team went 2-0 on Friday with 12-4 and 9-1 wins over Spring Hill.
 
GAME ONE
After a scoreless first inning, Montevallo's bats got hot in the bottom of the second with Syndee Reaves scoring the first run of the day off a bases-loaded error from Spring Hill. With the bases loaded again, Lily Stone scored off a walk by Shelby Sloan to make the score 2-0 in the second. Taylor Robinson batted in the third run of the inning for Montevallo on a sacrifice fly that brought Georgia Hughes home.
 
After Spring Hill scored on a wild pitch in the top of the third, the Falcons' offense exploded for eight runs in the inning. Lauren Higginbotham hit a two-run blast over the left field wall for the first Montevallo homer at home. A double from Ellie Derrick left two runners in scoring position until Stone notched her third RBI of the year with a single into left. Two Falcon batters later, Maddie Taylor drove in the fourth run of the inning with a left-field single. Sloan reached on a fielder's choice that scored Stone before Robinson blasted one over the outfield fence for a three-run bomb that left Montevallo with an 11-1 lead.
 
A quiet inning from both sides gave Spring Hill just one more chance to avoid a run-rule loss. The Badgers showed signs of life in the top of the fifth with a three-run shot that trimmed the lead to 11-4 heading into the bottom of the inning.
 
Higinbotham's RBI sacrifice fly scored Olivia Bergert and gave Montevallo a 12-4 victory.
 
Higginbotham lead the Falcons with a pair of hits with an impressive three RBI. Robinson drove in the most runs of the game with four RBI while Brittany Crowson earned her second win of the season with just three hits allowed.

GAME TWO
Montevallo opened the second game of the day with a pair of RBI doubles from Alisha Lanyon and Lauren Higginbotham in the bottom of the first to give the Falcons a two-run lead.
 
After a Spring Hill run in the third, Taylor Robinson squared one up for a solo shot for her second round-trip of the day.
 
With just two hits in the next two and a half innings, Montevallo took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth. The Falcons erupted for six runs in the inning to take a run-rule win 9-1. To kick things off, Sydnee Reaves drove a two-run homer over the centerfield wall that extended Montevallo's advantage to 5-1. Ellie Derrick doubled into right field and was brought home off a sacrifice fly from Rowan Franklin. Another bomb from Montevallo, this time from Bentlee Stiner, brought home Olivia Bergert for an 8-1 lead over the badgers.
 
Ansley Hudson scored the final run of the night with an RBI from Reaves to give Montevallo the 9-1 victory in six innings.
