Falcons Fall to Maryville, 14-6

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse dropped a non-conference matchup with RV Maryville, 14-6, on Tuesday, March 14.
 
Freshman keeper Alex Egorshin got his day started with a save at the 10:41 mark in the first quarter just before a Maryville goal at the 9:42 mark. The Saints quickly added a second goal just moments later to take an early 2-0 lead. Immediately following a third Saint goal, senior Chaiton Williams got the Falcons on the board for the first time with 4:34 remaining to cut the lead to 3-1 after the first.
 
Maryville scored five unanswered in the first seven minutes of the second before Williams connected with Connor Frederick to make the score 8-2. Frederick added an assist to his stat line just two minutes later off a goal from Scott Friant that cut the lead down to five.
 
Egorshin stopped one final shot in the first half with just 17 seconds to go to keep the score at 8-3.
 
Out of the break, Maryville scored early to increase its lead but Williams answered back with his second goal of the day to pull the score to 9-4. The Saints added three more goals before the end of the third to take a 12-4 advantage into the final 15 minutes.
 
Trevayne Hunter looked to spark a fourth-quarter comeback with a goal at the 10:05 mark but was snuffed out by back-to-back Saint goals. Williams completed his hat trick with 6:29 remaining but the Falcons came up short, 14-6.
 
Egorshin's afternoon ended with 14 goals allowed on 53 shots faced with 13 saves to lead the Falcons; defense while Williams headed the offense with three goals on five shots with an assist for a total of four points.

GAME NOTES
  • The Falcons were out-shot on the day 53-25 while taking the advantage in saves 13-5.
  • Montevallo lost the turnover battle 31-19 with Maryville taking the ground balls, 35-29.
  • Neither side was able to capitalize on extra man opportunities.
