MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team earned a pair of wins on the road against Spring Hill, sweeping a doubleheader 8-5 and 14-1, Wednesday.
The Falcons got back on the winning track Wednesday, beginning with an 8-5 win over Spring Hill. Montevallo completed the doubleheader with a dominant 14-1 win in game two. The final game of the doubleheader featured a dominant performance from the plate and the mound as
Trey Felker allowed one run and two hits through six innings with 11 strikeouts and
Asa Awbrey mashed a grand slam.
With the sweep, Montevallo is now 26-5 on the year.
GAME ONE
Montevallo opened the day with an 8-5 win over the Badgers and rattled off 12 hits. The scoring began when
Sam Kuchinski doubled down the left-field line to score one run. After Spring Hill evened the scoring in the bottom of the first, Montevallo gained the lead back in the third.
Luke Mitchell pushed UM ahead 2-1 with an RBI single up the middle and
Asa Awbrey doubled to score Mitchell, making the score 3-1.
Spring Hill responded in the bottom of the third frame with a four-spot to push ahead 4-3.
Reed Latimer and Mitchell each pulled through for the Falcons with a pair of singles to lead SHC 5-4. A bases-loaded walk by
Jake Smallwood scored Latimer. The final run for UM came next when Mitchell scored on a wild pitch to lead 8-4.
Chris Foster held the lead for the Falcons in the final inning and earned the save as UM picked up its 26
th win of the year.

- Montevallo scored eight runs on 12 hits while SHC scored just five runs on 12 hits.
- Luke Mitchell had a standout performance from the plate as he finished 3-for-3 with two RBI.
- Dylan Freeman earned the start and allowed just one run through two innings pitched.
- Sam Kuchinski and Reed Latimer each went 3-for-4 from the plate and drove in three runs combined.
- Chris Foster earned the save and pitched two innings with two strikeouts.
GAME TWO
In game two of the doubleheader, the Falcon bats exploded for 14 runs on 13 hits.
Mitchell picked up another RBI on the day when he singled through the left side to drive in the opening run of game two. Following Mitchell's RBI, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch put
Asa Awbrey aboard and pushed a run across to give UM a 2-0 advantage. The lead became 3-0 when
Zen Hiatt was hit-by-pitch in the next at-bat.
A sacrifice fly from Latimer in the fourth made it 4-0 before Awbrey blasted a grand slam to put Montevallo ahead 8-1. The scoring onslaught continued in the frame when
Evan Liddie singled to extend the lead to 9-1.
The scoring continued in the fifth when
Khalid Collymore delivered a double to push the lead to nine, 10-1. Smallwood followed up Collymore with RBI single to make it an 11-1 game.
In the sixth,
Wyatt Cunningham drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 12-1, for the lone run of the frame.
Mitch Fleming concluded the scoring for the Falcons in the seventh with a two-RBI double to left field, pushing the lead to 14-1.
Trey Felker was dominant on the mound as he pitched six innings and allowed just two hits and one run, which was unearned. He struck out a career-high 11 batters in 24 faced.
Danny Glenos struck out the side in the seventh to help secure the 14-1 win.
