MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo men's lacrosse set a program record with ten regular-season wins after eclipsing 20 goals for the second-straight game with a 22-8 win over Young Harris on Senior Day.
The Falcons were firing on all cylinders out of the gate with a ten-goal first sparked by a
Chaiton Williams goal just 1:26 into the game.
Trevayne Hunter found the mark just moments later before
Jackson Klewchuk got on the board with his first goal of the day.
Connor Frederick's goal at 9:23 capped a flurry of Falcon goals to put Montevallo on top 5-0. Williams scored at the 6:02 mark before an
Alex Egorshin save ignited a counterattack that saw
Scott Friant notched his first goal of the afternoon. Freshman
Matthew Boas and Hunter scored back-to-back goals to give Montevallo a 9-0 lead. A first-quarter hat trick came when Hunter found the mark for the third time to put Montevallo up 10-0 after the first.
The first three-minutes of the second quarter went by before Fredrick extended the Falcons' lead. Junior midfielder
Will Sommer scored off the following faceoff to give Montevallo a 12-0 lead at the 11:58 mark. YHC broke UM's scoring run with a goal just four seconds later. Boas hit the back of the net off a pass from
Max Citrano to extend the lead back to 12. Frederick and Klewchuk stretched the Falcons' advantage to 14 with a pair of back-to-back goals. Boas capped off his hat-trick with the final UM goal of the first half before a YHC goal made the score 16-2 heading into the locker room.
In the third quarter, Montevallo got out to slow start compared to the first half with the Mountain Lions adding a goal at the 12:26 mark. Freshman
Ryan Andrews scored the first Falcon goal of the second half, giving UM a 17-3 lead. Both sides turned to defense for the next five minutes before a man-up goal from Friant ended the scoring drought. A final Young Harris goal moved the score to 18-4 heading into the fourth.
Morgan Trites found the mark for the first goal of the fourth at the 12:00 mark. Freshman
Caden Chalut scored Montevallo's 20
th goal with 10:35 remaining. YHC went on a four-goal run before
Connor Ferguson found the mark off a
Henry Casement pass before Frederick scored on an extra-man chance to give Montevallo its record-setting tenth win, 22-8.
