Falcons Win Overtime Thriller With UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – On a rainy Saturday in Huntsville, the Montevallo men's lacrosse team took home its first Peach Belt Conference win after winning an overtime thriller against Alabama in Huntsville, 12-11.

UAH jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first six minutes of action with Trevayne Hunter putting the Falcons on the board with a man-up goal at the 7:21 mark in the first. Senior midfielder Chaiton Williams sliced the Chargers' lead in half with an unassisted goal just two minutes later. UAH would go on to score again with 1:08 remaining but, off a Cole Tenger face-off win, John Irving kept the Falcons within striking distance with :53 seconds left in the first.

With UAH ahead 5-3, Hunter notched his second assist of the day when Matthew Boas found the mark for his eighth goal of the season. Connor Frederick answered a UAH goal with one of his own to make the score 6-5 Chargers. Following a seventh UAH goal, the Falcons rattled off three in a row sparked by another Frederick goal. Will Sommer connected with Scott Friant for a Friant goal to knot the game at seven all. With just 10 seconds left in the half, Ryan Andrews gave Montevallo its first lead of the game at 8-7 heading into the break.

Out of the half, UAH regained control of the game with two back-to-back goals to take a 9-8 lead with 10:33 left in the third. Freshman keeper Alex Egorshin kept the Chargers off the board with four-straight saves before Jackson Klewchuk tied the game at nine at the 4:27 mark. Another late goal from Boas lifted Montevallo to a 10-9 lead heading into the fourth.

Both defenses locked down the first five minutes of the quarter with just two shots before Williams added onto Montevallo's lead with an unassisted goal. UAH would go on to tie the game at 11-11 with 7:38 to play after a pair of goals. The Falcons had multiple chances to take the game but eight shots from UM couldn't find the mark and sent Montevallo to just the second overtime in program-history.

With sudden victory on in OT, UAH won the opening face off and took a pair of shots but the Falcons' defense rallied to stop the attack and regain possession. Out of a Montevallo timeout, Klewchuk called game with a goal just 1:36 into overtime to give Montevallo its second overtime win, 12-11.
