PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo baseball team dropped game one of the NCAA South Region tournament, 10-3, to No. 6 seed Barry, Thursday.
In a game that was delayed four nearly six hours, the Falcons fell behind early on as Barry plated a run in the first inning. After a three-up, three-down opening frame for UM, the Bucs plated a pair of runs to lead 3-0.
Montevallo plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, making it a one-run game, when
Asa Awbrey scored on an
Evan Liddie sacrifice fly and
Reed Latimer slid into home on a wild pitch.
Barry added five more runs over the next two innings to jump in front 8-2.
Brooks Cooner entered from the bullpen in the fifth and held Barry off the board for the next two and two-thirds innings.
A sacrifice fly from
Khalid Collymore in the seventh allowed
Jake Smallwood to score and plated the third run for UM.
Barry added two more the rest of the way to defeat the Falcons 10-3.
"Disappointed with our energy and effort the whole game," said Head Coach
Chandler Rose. "But there is still a big weekend left and we have to respond well.
