Falcons Blank Union 8-0 to Advance in GSC Tournament

OXFORD, Ala. –  The University of Montevallo softball team is moving on in the Gulf South Conference Tournament after blanking Union, 8-0, in an elimination game.

Montevallo will await the loser between No.1 UAH and No. 4 AUM in an elimination game on Friday, May 5, at 12: 30 p.m.

The Falcons wasted no time making its way into the scoring column. In the top of the first inning, following a walk from Shelby Sloan and an Alisha Lanyon double, Taylor Robinson smacked her 16th homer of the season over the wall in right to give UM a 3-0 lead.

Taylor Lloyd made quick work of the Bulldogs in the bottom of the frame to hold the No. 7 seed off the board.

Montevallo picked up where they left off in the second and plated three more runs. All three runs came on a pair of errors by Union, with two outs, to give Montevallo a 6-0 lead.

An RBI single for Georgia Hughes in the third scored Lily Stone and added to the Falcons' lead, 7-0.

Lloyd continued her dominant outing in the circle with another scoreless frame in the fourth.

A Maddie Taylor RBI single in the fifth pushed UM's lead to 8-0, setting up the run-rule. Brittany Crowson replaced Lloyd in the bottom of the fifth and held the Bulldogs off the board for the run-rule victory.
