OXFORD, Ala. – The University of Montevallo softball team is moving on in the Gulf South Conference Tournament after blanking Union, 8-0, in an elimination game.
Montevallo will await the loser between No.1 UAH and No. 4 AUM in an elimination game on Friday, May 5, at 12: 30 p.m.
The Falcons wasted no time making its way into the scoring column. In the top of the first inning, following a walk from
Shelby Sloan and an
Alisha Lanyon double,
Taylor Robinson smacked her 16
th homer of the season over the wall in right to give UM a 3-0 lead.
Taylor Lloyd made quick work of the Bulldogs in the bottom of the frame to hold the No. 7 seed off the board.
Montevallo picked up where they left off in the second and plated three more runs. All three runs came on a pair of errors by Union, with two outs, to give Montevallo a 6-0 lead.
An RBI single for
Georgia Hughes in the third scored
Lily Stone and added to the Falcons' lead, 7-0.
Lloyd continued her dominant outing in the circle with another scoreless frame in the fourth.
A
Maddie Taylor RBI single in the fifth pushed UM's lead to 8-0, setting up the run-rule.
Brittany Crowson replaced Lloyd in the bottom of the fifth and held the Bulldogs off the board for the run-rule victory.

- Montevallo wins its third Gulf South Conference game all-time with an 8-0 victory over No.7 Union.
- The Falcons were dominant on all sides with eighth hits on eight runs, no errors, no runs allowed, and only one hit allowed.
- Freshman Taylor Lloyd earned her seventh win of the year with only one hit allowed in four innings pitched and one strikeout.
- Taylor Robinson led UM from the plate as she went 2-for-3 with three RBI on a three-run homer.
