MORROW, Ga. – Montevallo men's soccer fell 3-2 to Emmanuel College on a last-second, heart-breaking goal in the first matchup of the regular season.
Both offenses got out to hot starts with either side taking the first shot of the game inside the first ten minutes before
Till Schroeder fired the first Montevallo shot on frame just eight minutes into the contest. Sophomore keeper
Tomas Valles Gilbert made a stellar save to hold off the Emmanuel attack just 20 minutes in.
Senior midfielder
Renzo Bozzo nearly put the Falcons out in front but his shot sailed just high of the mark with 17 minutes left in the first half. Montevallo kept control of possession for the next 15 minutes until Emmanuel struck first with a goal at the four-minute mark. Moments later, local product
Joshua Owens knotted the game at 1 apiece with just 2:35 left in the half.
The score held for the first six minutes of the second half until Emmanuel regained the lead at 2-1. Montevallo pulled back even with the Lions after
Julio Rojo found the back of the net off an incredible ball from
Hugo Cakurda.
The game turned into a defensive battle through the rest of the half until Emmanuel broke through the Falcon defense and took the lead, 3-2, with 15 seconds remaining.
