Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Falcons Fall On the Road At Clayton State

MORROW, Ga. – Montevallo men's soccer fell to Clayton State, 4-1, dropping to 0-2 at the start of the 2023 season.

The Falcons got out to a sluggish start with Clayton State controlling possession through much of the first 10 minutes. Montevallo's backline began to find their footing a few moments later and created a scoring chance with a counterattack but, a Branko Buljan Evilich shot sailed high.

With 17:15 to go in the first half, Tomas Valles Gilbert stopped a dangerous shot from the Lakers to keep the game knotted at 0-0.

Just a few minutes later, Junior forward Alvaro Martin Lopez broke away for a one-on-one opportunity against the CSU keeper but was turned aside with 15 minutes remaining. The Lakers counterattack led to the first goal of the night and left Montevallo in a 1-0 hole.

A heroic effort from Michael Milliron led to an unassisted, highlight reel goal that brought the Falcons back level before the half.

A Falcon red card left Montevallo a man down with seven minutes on the clock but, UM held off the attack to keep the game tied 1-1 at the break.

Out of the half, CSU scored early on the man-down Falcons to open a 2-1 lead.

Valles Gilbert stopped a dangerous CSU shot with 36 minutes to go to keep Montevallo within striking distance. On the counterattack, Milliron looked to tie the game, but his shot sailed high.

CSU added back-to-back goals to extend their lead to 4-1 and a depleted Falcon roster couldn't make up the differential.
