MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo women's soccer is set to begin the 2023 conference season with GSC opponents West Georgia and Valdosta State scheduled to head to Montevallo on Friday, Sept. 15 and Sunday, Sept. 17, respectively.
So Far This Season…
The Falcons have tallied a 3-1 record through the non-conference schedule with dominant wins over Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene before defeating West Alabama in a non-conference game on Sept. 8. Montevallo took its first loss of the season on Sunday, Sept. 10 after Nova Southeastern defeated the Falcons at home, 2-0. The Falcons' offense ranks T-21
st in the nation and second in the league in goals per game with a 2.75 goals per match mark. Montevallo's defense is also one of the toughest in the nation with a .500 shutout percentage that ranks T-50
th in the country and tied for tops in the conference.

West Georgia enters the contest with an 0-1-2 record after tying with Young Harris and Georgia College. The Wolves lost the opening match of the season, 1-0, to then No. 10 Embry-Riddle. UWG's offense struggled through its first three games, scoring just one goal. The Wolves backline has played well, allowing just two goals through three games. UWG's lone goal scorer comes in the form of sophomore midfielder Judith Leon-Juarez.

The Lady Blazers boast one of the most powerful offenses in the league with 11 goals through four games, matching Montevallo's total. VSU enters the conference season with an unbeaten 2-0-2 record with wins over Georgia Southwestern and Georgia College. The Lady Blazers drew with Clayton State to open the season before tying with then ranked No. 2 Embry-Riddle on Sept. 6. Valdosta State's attack is led by senior forward Ana Moleka with a league-high five goals on nine shots.
Series History Against West Georgia:
The series history goes deep between these two long-time Gulf South Conference members. Since the Falcons rejoined the league in 2017, Montevallo holds a 2-3-1 record since 2017 with 2022's matchup ending in a draw with a Montevallo penalty kick goal in the closing stages of the match. Before that, Montevallo took the 2021 matchup with UWG going 3-1 in the opening four matches.
Series History Against Valdosta State:
The series history spans back to 2011 when the Blazers joined the Gulf South. Montevallo holds a one-game advantage in the all-time series with a 4-3-1 record over Valdosta State. The Falcons are 3-0-1 in the last four meetings between the two sides with Montevallo taking each of the last two matchups. A season ago, the Falcons topped the Lady Blazers 2-0 on the road during the final weekend of the regular season.
