Volleyball Ready for the PBC/GSC Crossover

TOURNAMENT NOTES

MONTEVALLO, Ala –
The University of Montevallo volleyball is headed to Augusta, Ga. for the Peach Belt Conference and Gulf South Conference Crossover on Sept. 15-16 hosted by Augusta University.
 
Last Time Out
The Falcons are coming off their first win of the season against Trevecca Nazarene on Sept. 9, by a score of 3-2. Montevallo notched 54 kills which is their second highest of the season while they had their highest total attacks in a match this season with 188.

About Montevallo
Fresh off their first win of the season, Montevallo is looking to get hot going into conference play starting next week. The Falcons will have more high leveled competition this weekend as they take on three Peach Belt teams who all have winning records.
 
The senior duo of Macy Martin and Allie Dishman led the Falcons to their first win against Trevecca where they both had over 10 kills in the match. Martin had 35 kills over the weekend and 29 digs. Dishman was just as impressive as she had 30 kills in the UAH Invitational with six service aces and nine total blocks.

Colton Thompson and Kalin Duncan were busy over the weekend as they combined for 99 assists in three games. Thompson has double-digit assists in all seven matches played so far this season.
 
Defensively, Megan Schram leads Montevallo with 63 digs on the season while Morgan Hoffman and Aliyah Thompson both have 12 total blocks.
 
Scouting USC Aiken
The Pacers are an impressive 6-1 to start out the season and have won their last four matches. USC Aiken is first in the PBC with 68 service aces and they are third in the conference in kills with 335 and assists with 312.
 
Sadie McKay leads the Pacers with 88 kills and has an attack percentage of .246. Lexi Rogers is second on the team with 64 kills while the two have a combined 30 service aces through seven matches.
 
Mallory Barash has 233 assists on the season and has 30 assists in six out of the Pacers seven matches. Kari Mercer leads USCA with 149 digs.
 
Montevallo leads the all-time series 11-10.
 
Scouting Georgia College and State
GSCU is currently at the top of the PBC with a perfect 8-0 record coming into the weekend. The Bobcats are coming off a victory over West Georgia, 3-2, in the West Georgia Tournament.
 
Georgia College is first in the PBC in points, assists, kills, blocks and digs. Mary Kate Kotzin leads the conference with a hitting percentage of .331 in 157 total attacks. Rachel Machovec leads the Bobcats with 105 kills while she also averages 3.09 kills per set.
 
Riese Johnson has 224 assists on the season which is third in the Peach Belt while the Bobcats have six players with double-digit blocks for the season.
 
Montevallo leads the all-time series 8-3.
 
Scouting Augusta
Augusta is another hot team in the Peach Belt Conference as they are on a four-match win streak and in those four matches they have swept in all of them. The Jaguars are 5-3 on the season and have the highest hit percentage in the PBC at .247.
 
Augusta is playing their first matches at home this season while they were 9-3 at home a season ago. Jazmyn Wheeler leads the Jaguars with 104 kills in 264 total attacks. Janvier Buggs has the most assists for AU with 136 and she is second on the team with 12 service aces.
 
On defense, Dariana Luna leads AU with 113 digs while she averages 4.19 digs per set. Augusta is dominant near the net as they have two players with 20 or more blocks and they only have three block errors.
 
Montevallo leads the all-time series 8-6.
