Falcons Against Wolves Ends In 0-0 Draw

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Falcons' women's soccer team battled West Georgia for 90 minutes in a contest that ultimately ended in a scoreless draw.

Montevallo was on the attack early and often with junior midfielder Bailey Raphelt unloading the first shot of the match just 1:10 into the game. The Falcons forced the UWG keeper to work just five minutes later when Madysen Legere fired a shot on goal at the 39:01 mark. In the tenth minute, Falcon goalkeeper Emily Hounsell stopped her first shot of the match.

With around 15 minutes remaining in the first half, Montevallo saw two scoring chances off back-to-back Falcon corners but the UWG defense kept Montevallo off the board again.

The Falcons looked to break the ice in the closing stages of the first, but four Montevallo shots missed the mark ending the half at a 0-0 tie.

The start of the second was a mirror image of the first with the Falcons pushing the ball into the attacking third and firing four shots on goal, all of which were either saved or missed the target.

West Georgia was issued a pair of yellow cards in quick succession giving Montevallo opportunities to score on the rattled defense but the Falcons couldn't capitalize.

Freshman striker Lainey Farabaugh nearly put the Falcons on the board with two separate breakaway runs inside the final 15 minutes, but, again, the Wolves were able to turn UM away.

West Georgia nearly broke the tie in the 82nd minute but an incredible team save from graduate midfielder Tina Palmieri took away the Wolves' best shot at scoring a goal securing the 0-0 draw.
