Falcons Open Up GSC Play Against Lee

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team travels to Cleveland, Tn. to take on the Lee Flames in their first Gulf South Conference match of the season.

Montevallo is coming off of the PBC/GSC Conference which they played in three highly competitive matches that went four or more sets in all of them while picking up a win against Georgia College.

About Montevallo
The Falcons have won every conference match opener dating back to 2017 and are looking to start their 2023 GSC schedule off strong with a win against Lee University on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Montevallo has won their last five matches against the Flames with the last four coming in 3-0 sweeps.
 
The Falcons are led by the trio of Macy Martin, Allie Dishman and Brooklyn Hudson who all are over the 60 kills mark this season while Martin leads with 69. Macy and Allie both have three double-digit kill matches in their last four matches.
 
Colton Thompson is the leading setter for Montevallo as she had 81 assists over the last three matches and has opened the 2023 season with 10 straight matches of 10 or more assists. Kalin Duncan had her best weekend as a Falcon as she totaled 56 assists.
 
Morgan Hoffman leads Montevallo with 19 total blocks while Allie Dishman and Aliyah Thompson have 14 and 13 on the season. Casey Hendrixson is over the 100-dig mark in a season as she comes in with 105 digs. Hendrixson is at 1409 digs in her career which is the fifth most in Montevallo Division II history.
 
 
Scouting Lee
Lee comes into Tuesday's match with a 7-4 record while going 1-2 this past weekend in the Henderson State Invitational. The Flames picked up a win on the weekend against Arkansas-Monticello 3-2.
 
Allie Scurlock leads Lee with 93 kills on the season while Abby Stroh has the second most with 73 kills and leads with 21 service aces. As a team, they are hitting at a .219 clip which is the third highest in the conference.
 
Ashton Middleton is the leading setter for the Flames with 298 assists which is the second highest in the conference and 11 behind the leader. Middleton also have 21 kills on 65 total attacks while adding nine service aces.
 
Defensively, Kamryn Halpin has 128 digs to lead the Flames and Naomi Hockless has 22 total blocks.
 
Lee's last conference opening match win was in 2021 against Union University.
