Volleyball Looks to Defend Home Court Against UAH

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team welcomes the University of Alabama in Huntsville to Trustmark Arena for their first home match of the season on Thursday, Sept. 21.

The Falcons are coming off their first Gulf South Conference win of the season as they swept Lee University 3-0. UM had their highest hitting percentage of the season at .302 while having their second lowest attack total of the season at 86.

About Montevallo
Last season, Montevallo split the regular season match with UAH as the Falcons took the first match 3-0. In the second matchup, the Chargers won 3-0. They met again in the Gulf South Conference Tournament where the Falcons defeated UAH 3-1.
 
Macy Martin leads the Falcons with 77 kills on the season while also having eight service aces and 74 digs. Kamble Frenette is another bright spot for Montevallo as of late as she has three match streak of double-digits kills and hitting .277 in those three matches.
 
Colton Thompson comes in at eighth in the GSC with 217 assists and also eighth with 5.29 assists per set. Thompson now has five straight matches of 20 or more assists. The reigning defensive player of the week, Casey Hendrixson, has the most digs for the Falcons with 112.
 
Scouting Alabama Huntsville
The Chargers own a 5-3 record on the season coming into Thursday's match and are coming off a 3-0 sweep in their first conference match of the season against Shorter. UAH has played three ranked teams this season and is 1-2 against them with their lone win coming against Barry University on Sept. 9.
 
The Chargers are a hot team as of late as they are on a four-match win streak. Autumn Mayes leads the Chargers with 88 kills and has the second highest ace total with nine.
 
Savannah Rutledge has been an assist machine as she has 309 assists on the season which is the second most in the conference. She also has the third highest dig total on the team with 67.
 
Defensively, UAH is led by Tatiana Bonilla who has 129 digs. At the net, the Chargers are fifth in the GSC with 77.5 blocks while they have three players who have 25 or more total blocks.
 
Alabama Huntsville has not beaten the Falcons in Montevallo since Nov. 16, 2019 where the Chargers won in four sets.
