Falcons Open Conference Play With a 3-1 Win at Shorter

ROME, Ga. – With two first-career goals in the final ten minutes, Montevallo men's soccer opened conference-play with a 3-1 win over Shorter on the road.

Montevallo struck first with an early goal from senior defender Brock Barbee in the ninth minute with senior midfielder Mark Shoebridge tallying his first assist of the season.

The Falcons nearly added a second early goal with a Nick Morrow shot in the 13th minute that was turned away by the Shorter keeper. On the counterattack, the Hawks nearly equalized with three straight shots before Montevallo regained control.

Calera, Ala. native Michael Milliron looked to extend Montevallo's lead in the 28th minute but was denied by Shorter's goalkeeper.

Shorter eventually found its equalizer in the closing stages of the first half, heading into the break with a 1-1 tie.

The Montevallo attack got rolling early with four-consecutive shots, one of which was saved, and another bounced off the woodwork.

The Falcons saw several chances to break the tie but could not break through the Shorter defense until Till Schroeder put Montevallo out in front in the 84th minute with his first goal in a Falcon uniform.

A minute later, Nick Morrow found his first goal of his young career to give Montevallo a two-goal win to open league-play.
